Half Marathon Training Status

So the Cannonball Run Half Marathon is three weeks away from today!!  I can't believe it's almost here.  I'm so looking forward to the weekend, but I hope I will be prepared.

I have been pretty diligent with my runs, including a 7 mile run last weekend and an 8 1/2 mile run this morning.  I woke up at 5:30 am, after the worst night of sleep I've had in a long time, ate my pre-run breakfast (sandwich thin with peanut butter), stretched and loosened up while my food settled, then hit the pavement at 6:20 am.  I felt so much better running this morning than I have over the last week during my shorter runs and that was very encouraging.  I ran the first 4.5 then stopped to take my GU and continued on.  I still felt good until about mile 7, but I managed to push out another 1.5.  My goal was to complete 9 miles, but I listened to my body and stopped a half mile short to walk the rest.

As you can see from above, my pace isn't fast by any means, but I'm okay with a 10ish min-mile.  I plan to run 10 miles next weekend, and 11 the weekend after that.  The week before the race will be spent resting with a few short runs mixed in.  I'm excited about that :)

I haven't been listening to music during my runs until today and that was a major game-changer.  It helped keep my mind off of the running and focus on the jams.. I wanted to dance throughout most of the run.  You won't find me running without my ipod anymore!

It started raining outside so now my bed is calling my name - nap time!!!
